Re: Skin and Collagen

The benefit of oral supplementation is that it will also increase collagen production in tendons, ligaments etc. but if you are mostly interested in combatting skin ageing on your face it makes sense to apply it topically. NewLifeScience, another potential dietary intervention is increasing the inta...

Another issue is that even if a specific supplement does not increase lifespan it may still improve quality of life and extend healthspan (e.g. lutein and cognitive dec...

Choline supplementation: Alzheimer's and cognition

A study published last week ( Velazquez 2019 , open paper) investigated the impact of lifelong choline supplementation on Alzheimer's disease and associated cognitive deficits. The mice were divided into two groups: control choline diet (1.1 g/kg choline chloride) and choline supplemented diet (5 g/...

Re: Age-related hair loss and vitamin E

I agree with Fred, balding is not just about the levels of DHT, it has a lot to do with the sensitivity to DHT which varies a lot depending on one's DNA. Then there are also environmental factors such as stress, diet etc. Some ethnicities are more prone to it than others and there can be quite a lot...

Re: Age-related hair loss and vitamin E

Yes, please keep us posted! The best way to track any changes would be by taking pictures regularly (with the same lighting conditions). An even more precise measurement would be if the hair in the area were shortly trimmed (normal hair growth can create an illusion of a a gradual increase in densit...

Blueberries (anthocyanins) reverse brain ageing

Anthocyanidins derived from blueberries are capable of only crossing the blood-brain barrier and in addition they also localise in brain regions involved in learning and memory (such as the hippocampus). According to Shukkit-Hale 2019 , the brain is particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress as it...
