Calorie Restriction Slows Pace of Aging in Healthy Adults

Post by jocko6889 »

The theory that calorie restriction slows the pace of aging and extends lifespan has been proven in worms, flies, and mice but never in humans... until now. For the first time, we have a randomized controlled human trial that shows reducing calories by 25% slowed the pace of aging and reduced mortality risk by a significant 10-15 percent.

Results by the Columbia Aging Center at Columbia University were recently published in the journal Nature Aging and used 220 healthy adults over two years. The study used epigenetic age testing to verify results.
“In worms, flies, and mice, calorie restriction can slow biological processes of aging and extend healthy lifespan” says senior author Daniel Belsky, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology at Columbia Mailman School and a scientist with Columbia’s Butler Aging Center. “Our study aimed to test if calorie restriction also slows biological aging in humans.”
