The researchers used 3 of 4 yamanaka factors in a cyclic fashion, leading to cellular age reversal without forming cancerous tumors. In a related study, it was shown that short induction of all 4 yamanaka factors (OSKM) in myocardial infarction models alleviated myocardial damage and improved cardiac function. David Sinclair has announced plans on using epigenetic reprogramming to cure some forms of blindness in upcoming human trials, however the race is on to see whether these techniques could be fast tracked in humans, either partially or in the entire body much sooner, as in this proposal to use lipids instead of a vector virus to carry yamanaka factors to tissues within the next 2 years somewhere in the Bahamas, where it would be legal to use human volunteers."we observed significant epigenetic markers of age-reversal, suggesting a potential reregulation of genetic networks to a younger, potentially healthier state. Together, these results may have important implications for the development of partial reprogramming interventions to reverse age-associated diseases in the elderly"
