The NAD precursor vitamin B3 against lung damage in Covid-19

Post by Fred »

"Lung damage is a major hurdle to recovery in those severe patients....It is important to mention that various studies have shown that in animal models with bleomycin-induced lung injury, vitamin B3 (niacin or nicotinamide) is highly effective in preventing lung tissue damage [7]. It might be a wise approach to supply this food supplement to the COVID-19 patients.

AND

"Since Vitamin B3 is highly lung protective, it should be used as soon as coughing begins."

Fred thank you for the graphic. This virus seems to produce a cytokine storm in some individuals and that leads to the severe respiratory distress. To treat people that are severe it is imperative to quench this storm. There are a few doctors that have been using IV ascorbic acid with success. NAC may help to increase interferon and help the body initially fight the virus. It is also important to note that elderberry should be stopped at first sign of infection with the Covid 19. This is because elderberry increases cytokine release and that could cause respiratory problems.

Thanks for the information, Fred! Very interesting graphic.

Thanks also to Drdavid about the elderberry information...I hear of people buying up Sambucol because they think it will help with colds and coughs, but that stuff has elderberry in it, eek!

So are we speaking of the simple vitamin Niacin??

Is this something we could be taking to boost NMN?

NAD+ is greatly diminished in virus (and bacterial) infections.

We wrote an article that reviews research that implies NAD+ is likely to be beneficial for virus in general.

The method of action is fighting inflammation to prevent, or minimize damage from the "cytokine storm" results from the immune system response.

We also just posted an article that shows NAD+ injections prevents death from septic shock caused by "cytokine storm" in mice given a lethal dose of E. coli bacteria.

Yes, that is bacteria - not virus. However, the immune system response and inflammatory response is very similar. In the bacteria infection, it was shown the NAD+ did not impact the bacteria, but minimized inflammation to prevent death.

We have been using NAD IV and Ascoric acid IV for those that have contracted the virus and have not responded to other therapies. The results have been significant and rapid. Most of the patients report feeling better before the end of the IV.
