NMN Attenuates Renal Interstitial Fibrosis

Post by AlbertY »

This new paper shows that NMN administration could significantly reduce tubular cell DNA damage and subsequent cellular senescence induced by hydrogen peroxide and hypoxia in human proximal tubular cells (HK-2 cells). The DNA damage inhibition, antiaging and anti-inflammatory effects of NMN were further confirmed in a unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury (uIRI) mouse model. Most importantly, the antifibrosis activity of NMN was also shown in ischemic AKI mouse models, regardless of whether NMN was administered in advance or during the recovery phase. Collectively, these results suggest that NMN could significantly inhibit tubular cell DNA damage, senescence, and inflammation. NMN administration might be an effective strategy for preventing or treating kidney fibrosis after AKI.

This is so good to hear. My friend was taking ibuprofen for diabetes related nerve pain AFTER her was told not to. We have a brand name pan pill called Advil, and he thought it was another NSAID. The damage, according to his doctor, was permanent. And he could be looking at dialysis within a year or so.

Needless to say, he did moderate damage. (actually his blood test said moderate to severe). He has been taking NMN for about 12 months now and his blood tests now say mild to moderate. He is 65. This may actually be a perfectly normal kidney reading for his age now. He doesn't quite get how significant this is.

But I do - he may never have to be on dialysis.

So many outcomes are what did NOT happen. This is a combination of both. His kidneys have improved and he may never have to be on dialysis.

Wow, this is Yuge!  NMN to potentially help the kidneys? Another reason to take this molecule in moderation.
