78 year-old newbie Starting NMN... ideas please.

Hi Everybody,

My wife and I are in our late 70s and rather belatedly starting (hopefully) anti-ageing!

We are taking Berberine, (tried and, due to dizziness, stopped Resveratrol), and now taking ~600mg of NMN powder with breakfast.

Now, onto the NMN.

We are not sure if it is working nor even if we have the right kind.  It is a pure white powder with a surprisingly low Ph of ~4... pretty acidic!  It would seem that NMN is usually pretty neutral.  Ideas?  The formula is C11H15N2O8P.  We have also heard differing storage requirements... cool room/fridge/freezer...?  Any ideas?

We have also been looking at NMNH -- looks even more promising than NMN but I can't find much data at all on it.

Many thanks in advance for any comments and ideas !

Cheers

John

Still in trouble with logging in.  I hope this works in Microsoft Edge.  In Firefox (my default browser) when I try to login I get "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again", round and round in a loop!

Welcome to the forum John.
First and foremost consider ditching other brands and going with RenueByScience products exclusively.
Most of us old stagers on the forum had initially began our longevity journey using other brands before we fortunately found RBS Products with their purity guarantee and 3rd party testing.
A lot of side effects eg: dizziness can be attributed to additives in some other brand formulas.
My advice for “what it is worth” is to go with RBS Liposomal Products like their NAD+ Complete Capsules and I would also again try RBS Lipo Resveratrol as it is important for this molecule to work in synergy with NMN and NAD+
One NAD+ Complete Capsule per day for a week or so then if everything is good go to two per day. Add one Lipo Resveratrol Capsule per day and you have begun your longevity journey with a reputable company.
Most of us take one or two days off Supplements a week.
Myself, I take off weekends. You can then expand your supplement range if you feel the need.
I store my RBS product (large) range in the refrigerator but this is optional.
See how you go and we are here to help with advice if need be.

Thanks for the reply, Newage.

I was hoping to have replies from several people... hence my delay in answering yours.  Sadly, it didn't happen.  Also I was hoping for something other than basically "ditch what you are taking and buy ours instead".  I do understand that Renue sells products and naturally wants members to buy them.  However, other products are not all bad and perhaps not all products are indeed sold by Renue.

NMNH is an example, and I mentioned that I was particularly interested in investigating this.  This relatively new molecule would appear to have many benefits over NMN.  Why isn't it being discussed and investigated.  I thought that this was what people did on this forum.

Anyway, many thanks again for your reply...

Cheers

John

Hi John,

Not sure on what you have bought, I don;t track specific formulations just order from RBS as for I trust them and gget great service. There are a few good suppliers out there but also a lot of doggy ones so do be careful with supplier selection.

I have also found when first taking NMN it some "side effects" can occur, I believe this is our bodies adjusting to the increased NAD+ in our systems and kicking off some backlog repair functions as our bodies priortise being alive for the next 30sec vs fixing something that may cause a problem in 1 year. In my case I had a couple of veritgo episodes when first taking it (I also have an issue in this area) but quickly subsided. A friend she got a stomach ache for the first week, another broke out in hives, everyone and me of course continued with our health just getting better - so reactions can be so different!

I keep all my NMN in the Fridge, I these days also buy 100g powder from RBS and put that in the deep freeze and decanter into a smaller container for use in my fridge. Depending on your consumption rate (I can also stock up to 6 months+ worth sometimes) it does last longer in frozen / cold.
I personally have been boosting NAD+ for 4 years, doing a combo of NAD+ boosters for 3 years now. Current routine the last 12 months is taking a LIPO and Sublingual Powder/Tablet combo ~1.4g in the morning about 45m-1h after waking. Then before heading off to work I shot, 3 sometimes 4 pumps into each nostril of Nasal NAD+ Complete to then head out full of energy into the day.

In my case I take most NAD+ boosters in the morning, and then an afternoon booster of 250-375mg sublingual. Some people cant sleep if they take it in the afternoon/night, I did not have that problem at first but then started noticing approx. 3-5months into starting slight disruptions, so be risk averse (sleep is so important) I take no NAD+ boosters after 3-4pm in the afternoon. Also please start slowly if your new, on a low dose for a week(s) and build up very slowly from there to get to your sweet spot. As noted before you need to get your body used to all that extra NAD+.

It is is not the only thing I am doing to try to keep fit and healthy but it is a critical foundation - no NAD+ in your system, well simply it ends badly. All up for me it is working well. Feeling supercharged every day, have not caught anything or had a sick day in over 4 years and much more health wise is so much better :)

Thanks for the reply, Boxcost.

Well, I bought the C11H15N2O8P molecule (NMN) pure bulk powder from China, ie the "raw material".  Apparently, the storage is up to 2 years in a dark dry place at room temperature.  I found this to be rather optimistic, to say the least, hence my question about storage.  But, as I don't know how it is supposed to be, how can I know if it has "gone off"?  Is there any way to test it... does the Ph change, or the colour or the taste or...?  As I mentioned it is surprisingly acidic, so the taste is not too good (would be unbearable sublingual).  BTW there is a Certificate of Analysis for this product but that applies to the manufacturer, not necessarily to the product now sitting in my fridge!

According to some trial results I have seen, IIRC, at 300/600/1200 mg/day. 600 and 1200 gave ~the same results. 300 worked too but nothing like as well.  So we started at ~350 and progressed quickly (in 7 days) to ~700mg per day.  David Sinclair takes 1000mg in the morning in olive oil.  We already have olive oil and garlic plus either salmon or sardines or avocado on toast for breakfast, so now we sprinkle the 700mg of NMN on our toast and drown it in the olive oil before adding the rest.

Possible side effects (or coincidence?), frequent "empty stomach" feeling and occasional stomach-ache.  Another one is difficulty sleeping long enough -- we tend to wake up earlier than before.  BTW, we take the NMN (with or without Resveratrol) only in the morning. We also take a lot of other supplements.  To avoid possible interactions, we have moved some from the morning to the evening.  They are Pine Bark Extract, Vitamins B12, B9, B6, D3, K2, Lutein and zinc.  The change does not seem to have improved the duration of or sleep.  However, we are going through a bit of stress at the moment, so it could simply be that!

BTW, do you know anything about NMNH?

Cheers

John

Oh on NMNH, not seen any updates since the original article I read, probably discussed somewhere on this site over a year ago:  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33793246/

On the sleep challenge, if you have not already look up Dr Matthew Walker on sleep.  Also have a look at this product: https://renuebyscience.com/product/rest ... -capsules/

I am moving to Lipo Restore PM, I would recommend it to anyone having trouble sleeping as one of a set of tools to optimise sleep. It for me also supports my strategy of supplementing, if possible to replace things I lose with aging, Glutathione & Melatonin are on that list. Apigenin is building a large body of evidence on the benefits, so I decided a while ago to supplement with it, then more recently taking it at night turned out to be a great hack to get longer, more restful sleep :D
